Kerala Bhavanam today is the nerve centre of various activities.
Literary & Educational
- Aksharaslokam and Ekanki competition is conducted every year in the month of February/March.
- Bala Samskarashibiram (Children’s camp – 3 days) for the age group of 6 to 14 which helps the children to know and understand Kerala’s socio-cultural activities. All the children enjoyed participating in the three days camp and camp was appreciated by all parents.
- We are running 4 divisions of Pre-primary classes at Kerala Bhavanam. A large number of students from lower strata of society derive immense benefit from this facility.
- Our Dance school affiliated to Nalanda Dance Research Centre, imparts lessons in Bharatha Natyam through professionals in the field under the able guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) Kanak Rele.
- Various temple arts are also being promoted viz., chakkiarkootthu, koodiyattam Kathakali, Ottanthullal etc.
- Free Malayalam classes for children to learn the language under Malayalam Mission, Govt. of Kerala. The teachers are continuously trained by tutors nominated by Govt. of Kerala and the years exams are conducted by Govt. of Kerala. The yearly courses are classified as Kanikonna, Sooryakanthi and Aambal.
- “Visalakeralam” was launched as an annual publication to bring together Malayalee writers in Bombay to develop their writing abilities and to provide a platform for them. This was in 1945 and the next year it was converted into a quarterly magazine, under the editorship of Mr. N.R. Nayar. Over the last 70 years it has earned recognition for itself as a quality literary magazine besides promoting a number of talented writers in Mumbai.
